meet the crew

LIZ ASHTON
Car duties with Elaine between 11.30pm on Saturday and 4.00am on Sunday. She lost her partner to cancer about two year's ago, Elaine is his mother.

HELEN BARBER
Car duties with Tony Hazell between 7.00am and 9.00am on Sunday. Then ran stretches with me between 9.00am and 11.15am on Sunday. Her brother in law is currently undergoing treatment for the very rare penile cancer. Her partner is Tony Hazell. Helen also helped, and was interviewed, when the TV reporter came to do some filming.

STEVE BATTLE
Ran with me between 4.40pm and 11.00pm on Saturday. An experienced ultra distance runner with a 24 hr best of 119 miles (191 km).

COLIN BEST
Ran with me between 5.15am and 6.00am on Monday.

SAMUEL BLACK
Ran stretches with me between noon and 6.00pm on Sunday. When not running he was on car duties with Derek Martin. Experienced ultra distance runner.

MIKE BLAMIRES
Ran with me between 4.00am and 9.00am on Sunday. Ran very well in the Marathon des Sables in March 2009 and obviously enjoying this ultra running thing.

FAY CARVER
My wonderful wife who has a lot to put up with but copes remarkably well. This time she updated the blog while I was on the run ... and received lots of good reports for doing so. An ultra running widow perhaps.

JOHN HARRISON
Car duties with Alan McGinley between 4.40pm and 11.30pm on Saturday.

STEVE HARVEY
Car duties with Tracy Harvey between 2.00am and 6.00am on Monday. My brother in law.

TRACY HARVEY
Car duties with Steve Harvey between 2.00am and 6.00am on Sunday. My wonderful sister.

TONY HAZELL
Car duties with Helen Barber between 7.00am and 9.00am on Sunday. Then ran stretches with me between 9.00am and 11.15am on Sunday. Helen Barber's partner.

NICK HODGKINSON
Car duties between 9.00am and 12.30pm on Saturday. Then ran with me between 12.30pm and 2.15pm on Saturday. Suffered a horrific hamstring injury about two year's ago and is struggling to get back to full fitness.

HUW ILLINGWORTH
Three car driving stints: (1) 12.30pm to 4.40pm on Saturday, (2) 4.00am to 7.00am on Sunday, (3) 8.00pm on Sunday to 2.00am on Monday. Above and beyond the call of duty.

DEREK MARTIN
Car duties between 9.00am and 6.00pm on Sunday (often with Samuel Black). An experienced ultra distance runner now struggling with back problems.

ALAN McGINLEY
Car duties with John Harrison between 4.40pm and 11.30pm on Saturday. Caroline's partner.

CAROLINE McGINLEY
Ran with me between 4.40pm and 9.15pm on Saturday. Only started running two or three year's ago and had never run further than 14 miles before ... she ran 22 with me - fantastic stuff. Alan's partner.

ANDY McMENEMY
Ran stretches with me between 2.45pm and 5.00pm on Sunday. Car duties between 6.00pm and 8.00pm on Sunday. Then ran with me between 8.00pm on Sunday and 2.00am on Monday. Experienced ultra distance runner who has taken part in the Spartathlon, Marathon des Sables and Namibian Ultra among others. In 2008 he came second in the latter. This year he helped with training Helen Skelton (Blue Peter) for the same event. His father also had part of his right lung removed. Andy also helped, and was interviewed, when the TV reporter came to do some filming. Above and beyond the call of duty - a few times.

PHIL ROBERTSON
Cycled with me between 11.00pm on Saturday and 4.00am on Sunday. A currently injured ultra distance runner who has a place in the Ultra Tour Mont Blanc which takes place in August. Completed the West Highland Way Race in 2008.

ELAINE
Car duties with Liz Ashton between 11.30pm on Saturday and 4.00am on Sunday. Lost her son to cancer about two year's ago.
