Did anyone out there watch TV yesterday at 9.00pm. The program I'm referring to was Horizon on BBC2.
Horizon ... 'a series exploring topical scientific issues and their effects for the future.' Last night's program was 'The secret life of your body clock' and it raised some very interesting points regarding sports performance. The program wasn't just about sports but some of was relevant.
Most of know that high intensity workouts are best done in the afternoon or evening and this program explained why ... in a nutshell the human body is far more prone to heart attacks, high blood pressure, etc in the first few hours after waking up.
Peak Performance Online has some more info about when to do high intensity workouts.
The Horizon program can be watched here.
But my main question is: how does this affect a race that lasts for 24 hours ? Is it better to ease off the gas a bit when the body clock is running a bit slow (mid afternoon) and when it's dark ? Would it be good to push things along slightly when the body is in peak condition ie round about noon and then between about 5pm and 10pm ?
Any ideas ... all suggestions welcome
